Amanda is a name derived from Latin, meaning "worthy of love." In the latter part of the seventeenth century, the freshness of Restoration drama in England included the creation of bright new character names, especially for women. Most of them had a Latin root. Amanda made its first appearance in this way, later turning up in romantic poetry and novels.

But according to my mother the song Amanda by the rock band Boston was playing when she went into labor and that is how I was named. Well at least that is what I have always been told.  Here are the songs lyrics;
